The cramped conditions in the lounge after moving the Christmas tree from its usual position to the left of the fireplace, in front of the door from the lounge to the dining area, adjacent to the stairs. This door is normally blocked off at Christmas to accommodate the tree. Since access to the dining room floor was restricted, the door from the kitchen could not be used to access the stairs, hence the need to move the tree and rearrange the lounge furniture.
